Mag. Christian Tury

I studied sociology and political science at the University of Vienna, and European Studies at the Danube University in Krems. I always wanted to work in the financial sector. I was approved as a student of business studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business when I encountered Warren Buffet in Omaha, Nebraska, for the first time. A speculative application to Chase Manhattan Bank made the dream reality.

As a manager in a multi family office, we are all-rounders with a very in-depth understanding of a wide range of financial operations. Assuming responsibility is an obligation, which is why we also invest a lot of time in our younger colleagues.

Personal convictions

Values
Fairness is very important to me. I grew up in humble surroundings and so my value system encompasses justice, tolerance and happiness. No matter how much this shaped me, I worked on most of my other values myself. I consider determination, discipline and staying adaptive to be crucial.
Markets
The financial and capital market is a wide-ranging market that affects all areas of life. The market that I monitor consists of buyers and sellers, who have both rational and emotional motifs for their decisions. The central matter is to study and correctly interpret people’s behavior.
Trends
The advance of technology and, especially, artificial intelligence are bringing about critical changes. In our field, regtech will help overcome the complexity of legal frameworks. These developments will quickly and profoundly change the world, and mankind.
Risks
The positioning of a multi family office is challenging and rewarding due to the broad scope of duties. There are risks in the strategic alignment, as we have to look far into the future, but implement our actions on a daily basis. I think it’s a big risk not to recognize complexity.
Countries
It is important to us not to think in country categories but rather in relationships. We work on investments globally. It is for historical reasons that most clients are based in Europe and South America. The US and China affect different developments, but Switzerland continues to set the standard in private banking.
People
You have to tolerate the wonder of man with its highs and lows, otherwise you can’t work successfully. When dealing with people, I have learned that paths cross more than once in life. For this reason, I keep my expectations and prejudices low and look forward to being surprised.
