Martin Enz

In 1976, the founding year of Finad, I was attending a grammar school that specialized in mathematics and sciences and had a wide range of potential job ideas: I saw myself as a pilot, an architect or a lawyer. An old friend from my scout troop ultimately motivated me to study law. My combined disciplines of mathematics and legal science taught me to analyze matters in a structured fashion. One of my strengths is to provide my clients with a comprehensive solution to financial, fiscal and legal issues, in a clear and succinct manner.

After I started work in the Corporate Finance department of UBS, I was active in a wide range of areas within the financial sector. I found my job at Credit Suisse to be particularly fascinating. I had to develop and manage a subsidiary company as a center of excellence for complex matters for very high-net-worth private clients. For the last ten years, I have been putting my professional experience to perfect use at Finad, serving the interests of our clients.

Personal convictions

Values
My father passed on to me his sincerity, respect and empathetic approach to people. Up until now, an optimistic attitude has helped me get through life with a certain ease. Furthermore, openness and directness are values, which I both live by and expect from others.
Markets
The extensive requirements of wealthy families go far beyond the performance of the Dow Jones. Among other things, they include all asset classes, well-considered succession planning, fiscal aspects and support in countless other things – and not least so that the clients can use their time for the things they find important.
Trends
Short-term economic forecasts have a large standard deviation – often, the result is different to the expectation. I consider long-term trends to be far more significant for controlling the developments of major assets: demographic change is continuing to progress, everything is becoming more international and we are being “compelled” increasingly towards sustainability. One has to be prepared.
Risks
Ten months after I started my first job at the beginning of 1987, the stock market crashed. This experience taught me prudence, moderation and the insight to know that a period of adjustment must follow a euphoric high on the markets. Non-transparency – especially in financial products – increases the risks.
Countries
I have visited more than 75 countries, and I picked up new impressions from each one. As much as I love to travel, I also love to come home. During my career, I have mainly provided support for international clients or Swiss clients with an international focus. At Credit Suisse, I managed a team with employees from ten different countries, which was an enrichment that I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on.
People
My openness means I quickly connect with people. However, I try and maintain long-lasting relationships on equal terms. Many of my friendships have lasted decades. It is important to me to develop a mutual trust with clients and to prove that the leap of faith afforded by any new client is justified.
