Ullrich Fischer

Having grown up in a family of bankers, I gained my first professional experience at one of the large Austrian financial institutions, while working towards my bachelor’s degree in business administration. After completing my Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, I decided early on to pursue a career in Private Wealth Management and joined FINAD in 2014. In 2019 I earned the CFA designation which complements my academic training.

As Chief Investment Officer and member of the FINAD Investment Committee, I play a key role in the development of the FINAD House and Market View, the design and development of the investment process, as well as in strategic and tactical decision making at the asset class and individual security level. In addition, I advise institutional clients on their asset allocation and selection of third party managers.

Personal convictions

Values
In finance, trust is the most valuable asset. It has to be earned over a long period of time, involves a great deal of responsibility and can be lost quickly and irretrievably. In order to strengthen our customers' trust in us and our trust in ourselves, we strive for continuous improvement. Willingness to perform, integrity and loyalty are just as important as humor, humanity and empathy in this context.
Markets
Independence of thought and advice, as well as asset management free of conflicts of interest, are essential in the increasingly complex and fast-moving financial markets - but unfortunately not easy to find.
Trends
The last few years have seen a massive acceleration of the digitalization trend in the financial markets. The spectrum of "robo advising" and "gamified" trading apps has exploded and digital assets are becoming increasingly popular. The trend towards the global "democratization of the financial world" is an important and good development, but it should not lose sight of an individual approach. Every investor has his/her own goals, risk appetite and risk tolerance.
Risks
The financial markets are a continuous discounting process of collective expectations for the future. In this process, the world is never black-or-white but always a shade of gray. In the face of constantly changing narratives, one is easily tempted to take refuge in simple heuristics. Rarely, however, are these a good basis for investment decisions. A data-driven, disciplined, but flexible investment process accompanied by rigorous risk management is crucial for long-term investment success.
Countries
My birthplace Vienna has always been my center of life. In winter I regularly go skiing in the mountains of East Tyrol. As a long-time Aikidoka, Japanese culture and history fascinate me.
People
Whenever people interact, emotion is involved and misunderstandings happen. But equally, it is invaluable to learn from others and to be part of a critical and creative decision-making process. I am delighted to be part of such a diverse and dedicated team.
