Robert S. Winter

Economics in St. Gallen and an MBA at the Wharton School are the foundation stones of my education. Originally, I wanted to enter the diplomatic service. However, investment banking also opened interesting international opportunities for me. By working with private companies and developing relationships with the owners, I began to advise families.

I provide advice for the transition from entrepreneurship to financial investment. This is a critical moment on all levels, as it often involves various generations and requires a knowledge transfer, particularly in the field of risk. The relationship with my clients is an interesting learning process and is my daily motivation.

Personal convictions

Values
My father was an entrepreneur and so I shared in the concern for businesses and employees. At J.P. Morgan, I became familiar with real teamwork and honest team spirit. Transparency and openness, honesty and directness are prerequisites for my work.
Markets
The subjects I discuss with my clients and that I analyze range from investment markets and their macro-conditions to the micro-level and individual investment titles. Based in Switzerland, it’s possible to assess markets in a global way, which is something my clients really appreciate.
Trends
Clients search for new consulting partners and systems. The model of private banking has become corrupted and the multi-family office now has the professional maturity to offer a real alternative. A trend which began years ago.
Risks
The greatest risks are those, which people do not speak about or want to see. This doesn’t happen with us, as we can afford to be honest. Cross-border business offers regulatory risks and the family situations create social challenges which need to be addressed.
Countries
I grew up in Lima in Peru, so I have an affinity for Latin America. My clients are mainly located in that region and value our base in Switzerland. Spain and Portugal are interesting and important cultural motherlands of Latin American countries.
People
It is enriching and the appeal of my job to work with so many interesting people. In this kind of environment, you develop quickly and never stop learning, which I really enjoy. However, I’m an analyst at heart and I rather less enjoy cocktail parties.
