As I was born in Hamburg, I inevitably came across issues surrounding trade, maritime shipping, banking, monetary policy and the economy in the Hanseatic city. The free trade of goods and services, which was started by the Hanseatic League in the 13th century and shaped the cosmopolitan attitude of the city of Hamburg, influenced my understanding of the free market from early on.

I am the pilot, the captain, used to navigating the world’s oceans with large turning circles, and safely slipping through straits and port basins.
